Tema Shipyard targets 45 vessels in 2018

The Tema Shipyard & Dry-Dock recorded an increase in the number of ocean vessels which docked at their facility for repair works in 2017 as compared to 2016.

While about 24 ocean vessels were recorded in 2016, the number increased to 34 representing an increase of 10 vessels.

"The year 2017 had seen a lot of work at the Tema Shipyard. For the first time in many years we have handled 34 ocean vessels which we think is a record high performance that we have been able to achieve in the year."

Speaking in an interview with Oman News, General Manager in charge of Business Development at Tema Shipyard & Dry-Dock Alice Torkornoo, who disclosed this explained that 2017 was actually a good year because they witnessed a lot of activities which took place at the Shipyard.

According to her, they rehabilitated their dilapidated old offices and replaced some of the obsolete equipment to enhance operations at the Shipyard.

Asked what is their expectations for the year 2018, Madam Alice Torkornoo said: "We're expecting to improve upon our performance in 2017."

"We're targeting 45 vessels in 2018. Should we be able to get in more equipment we believe will be able to handle more vessels," she added.

She noted that the company's revenue improved in 2017 due to the increase in the number of vessels that docked at the Shipyard for servicing.

She hinted that the company will take delivery of new equipment this year to boost their operations.
