President Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party administration is determined to ensure that Ghana’s oil and gas resources are well managed for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
The Minister for Energy, Boakye Agyarko said this in a speech delivered on his behalf by his deputy Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam at the launch of an Independent Oil & Gas Information Resource Centre (IOGIRC) in Accra on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.
“We want to make oil a blessing for the current and future generation,” he said.
We want to make oil a catalyst for economic, human and physical transformation of our economy,” he added.
Touching on the Independent Oil & Gas Information Resource Centre (IOGIRC), Mr. Boakye Agyarko noted that the Centre will deliver on its mandate by providing comprehensive information through both online and offline channels.
“To give true meaning to the objective of the Centre, Government will soon demonstrate its commitment to broadening the boundaries of transparency and information disclosure by launching a Public Register of Petroleum Agreements Permits and Authorizations, a requirement by section 56 of the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act of 2016(Act 919).
The Register will contain full –text Petroleum Agreements and other relevant documents of public interest. It is our expectation that the Register will not only complement the work of the Centre but more importantly serve an important reference source for information,” he said.
Mr. Boakye Agyarko noted that the launch of IOGIRC had come at the right time because Government is desirous of increasing upstream activities in partnership with national and international oil and gas exploration.
He said with the increased upstream activities, the number of petroleum activity, the local service providers and their personnel are expected to increase.
“This means that the information needs of the public and the industry stakeholders will no doubt also increase tremendously,” he stressed.
