The Management of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has denied knowledge of any stealing at the refinery as it is being alleged by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, Ghana (COPEC-Ghana) that some workers of TOR who are crooks have stolen and sold equipment of the refinery and shared the proceeds among themselves.

According to the management, it is not aware of any theft that has occurred at the refinery as it is been alleged by COPEC.

TOR's response follows an allegation by COPEC in a statement signed by its Executive Secretary Duncan Amoah that some staff have ‘stolen and sold’ some equipment at the refinery leading to the composition of a committee to investigate the matter.

"The January fire which caused some damage to some of the boilers was expected to be fixed in 3months but production has still not been achieved only for some crooks at the refinery to steal and sell some of these same equipment which is currently under investigations with a committee put in place to produce a report on the matter."

"The cost of an air cooler tube bundle which is estimated to be around $400,000.00 or GHS1, 840,000.00 together with other valuable parts are believed to have been sold and shared between these crooks with nothing back to the refinery," COPEC said in a statement on Monday, December 18, 2017.

“Whiles we wait for the committee to produce its report on the fraud being perpetuated on the good people of the country, we also call on the BNI, EOCO, NATIONAL SECURITY AND THE POLICE CID to also conduct a thorough and further investigations into the matter and ensure a swift sanctioning of the officers involved in this grand theft at the Refinery,’ the statement demanded.

However, a statement signed by the Public Affairs Manager of TOR, Dr. Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako dismissed the allegations.

Although, he admitted that there is a committee in place that is investigating a case at TOR, he explained that the committee has been set up to investigate a matter relating to how some scraps were disposed of in the refinery.

He called on the public to remain calm and have confidence in the committee tasked to come up with their findings on the matter.

“We wish to assure Ghanaians that the Management of TOR would ensure that the right thing is done at all times, and that no acts of corruption would be tolerated at the Refinery,” he said.
