Economist and a former lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo, has advised Akufo-Addo led administration to terminate the agreement Ghana has with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by 2018.

He warned that it will not augur well for the government if it does not terminate the programme.

The previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration subscribed to three years programme under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to realign the economy due to the weak economic fundamentals at that time.

However, the incumbent New Patriotic Party has extended the programme to next year.

But speaking on Oman FM’s political analysis programme “Boiling Point” Thomas Kusi Boafo who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Sector Reforms noted that one of the things that sent the NDC into opposition is the IMF programme because of the austerity measures they compelled government to put in place ahead of last year’s elections.

“On records no government has rolled out austere measures from IMF ahead of elections and survived.

“That is why by the close of next this government must be exiting IMF. This government must do everything possible to exit IMF by 2018,” he stressed.
