2018 Budget: we're not introducing new taxes-Gov't

Government has denied claims by the National Democratic Congress Minority in Parliament that it intends to introduce new taxes in the 2018 budget.

According to the Deputy Minister for Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah the Minority's claim is false.

He explained that what government is determined to do next year, is to puck all revenue loopholes by ensuring efficiency in the collection of taxes so that the country could rake in more revenues from taxes.

" The International Monetary Fund(IMF) and other relevant bodies have expressed fears that we're going to face difficulties in achieving our delevelopmnet since were likely to miss our revenue targets, but we indicated it to them that we're are going to put measures in place measures to ensure efficiency in our revenue generation and they understood us,"he said.

"One of the existing taxes is property rate ....This particular tax a lot of property owners don't pay so we're going to mare sure that property owners pay from next year going," he added.

Speaking on Oman FM's National Agenda on Wednesday Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah indicated that the 2018 Budget whcih will be delivered by the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will focus on job craetion and infrastructural development of the country.
