Suhum MCE assures of adequate security ahead of Odwira festival

The Municipal Chief Executive for Suhum in the Eastern Region, Hon. Margaret Darko has assured residents of Suhum of adequate security during this year’s Odwira Festival.

She explained that a number of measures have been put in place by the Assembly in collaboration with the police to ensure that there is peace during and after the festival.

The MCE, who is also the head of the Municipal Security Council for the area gave the assurance during a sod cutting ceremony to commence the building of an ultra modern palace for the people of Suhum.

In a bid to ease the heavy vehicular traffic situation in the area, which is as a result of the closure of the Prof. Atta Mills road currently under rehabilitation, she said that stretch will be completed and opened before the commencement of the celebration.

She added that there will be improvement in some other roads in the Municipality including the T-junction to the main station stretch.

“The Ghana Highway Authority has assured me that they will fix most our roads before the festival commences,” she stressed.

Hon. Margret Darko disclosed that the Assembly has procured some street lights to be installed at vantage points to lighting the streets so as to prevent criminals from operating during the festival.

She admonished the youth to comport themselves before, during and after the Odwira festival so that they do not find themselves on the wrong side of the law.

The Hon MCE on behalf of leadership of the NPP party in the constituency donated building materials and amount of ten thousand Ghana cedis in support of the construction of the ultra modern palace for the people of Suhum.

Some personalities present at the ceremony includes: Suhum Hene, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi 1, the Queen Mother of Suhum Nana Yaa Sakyibea, Member of Parliament for Suhum and Hon Frederick Opare Ansah, who represented Hon Bryan Acheampong Minister of State at the presidency in charge of national security and Religious Leaders
