Two policemen who were supposed to be on duty at the Tema tollbooth at the time of a robbery incident on Sunday November 5, 2017 have been arrested to assist police in their investigations.

The Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Joseph Benifo Darkwa, who revealed this, said the supervisor and the police officers on duty were picked up and are currently being interrogated over the robbery at the tollbooth.

Some suspected armed robbers at the weekend stormed the Tema tollbooth on the main Accra-Tema motorway and made away with an amount GH ¢45,000 being tolls collected between Friday and Sunday.

According to our sources, the incident occurred around 8:30pm at the time police officers on duty had left their duty post to go and buy food.

It is not clear how many the suspected robbers were, but our sources indicated that they were many and that they stormed the area using motorbikes.

The suspected robbers allegedly pointed guns at hawkers around the tollbooth at the time of the incident thus scaring them from raising alarm for help.

When Oman News got to the scene on Monday morning the place was very quiet with only few hawkers around.

Both tollbooth attendants and hawkers were all tight lipped apparently they had been told not to grant media interviews.

The police PRO confirmed the robbery incident but said his outfit had information from the supervisor at the tollbooth at about 3:30am on Monday, that some armed men have attacked the place and made away with GH¢45, 000 being tolls they had collected since Friday.

According to him, the supervisor claimed that incident occurred in the absence of the police officers on duty.
