50 ‘food poisoned’ GHANAS students back to classroom

Students of the Ghana National Senior High School (GHANAS) at Koforidua in the Eastern who were hospitalized for an alleged food poisoning have been treated and discharged.
The students who are numbering about 50 ate from the school's canteen on Sunday and Monday, but started complaining of stomach upset afterwards and were all rushed to the St. Joseph Hospital, where they spent about three days to undergo treatment.
Some of the students were discharged on Wednesday while the rest were also discharged on Thursday.
One the students who spoke to Oman News, said she went to the canteen on Sunday and saw her friends eating jollof rice and she decided to eat same.
According to her, she returned on Monday to the canteen to eat but after eating she suffered severe stomach upset and was rushed to the hospital by the school authorities.
Asked whether she will eat from the school canteen again she responded negative.
Madam Joyce Afriyie Adjapong, who is the Senior House Mistress, told Oman News’ Eastern Regional correspondent George Sampson Kumwuramuhene that the students are now back in class and studying.
He explained that the situation is currently under control adding that the authorities are going to make sure that food prepared from the school’s canteen are safe for the students to prevent reoccurrence of the incident.
