It has emerged that the extravagant funeral of the late mother of the former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) Dr. Stephen Opuni was funded from the coffers of COCOBOD.
Many Ghanaians took to the social media to express worry when it come to light the a magnificent building which was under construction at Babianiha in the Brong Ahafo Region was going to be the tomb, where the late mother of Dr. Stephen Opuni would be interred.
But little did Ghanaians know that the magnificent tomb was built with tax payer’s money.
Speaking on Oman FM's political analysis programme "Boiling Point" on Thursday, the Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, revealed that the management of COCOBOD sponsored the funeral of late mother of Dr. Stephen Opuni with a colossal amount of GHC1.5million.
"Opuni emplaned his late mother from Ghana to South Africa and kept the body in the morgue for seven good months before it was returned to Ghana. A whole community was redeveloped and after everything COCOBOD spent GHS1.5million," he claimed.
Kwame Baffoe was reacting to a press conference organized by the Minority in Parliament, where a number of issues were raised including a purported dismissal of eleven staff of COCOBOD without wrongdoing.
He accused the minority for failing to tell Ghanaians why those eleven staff were sacked explaining that the said staff were dismissed after investigations by EOCO established that they approved the GHS 1.5million sponsorship for Dr. Opuni's late mother’s funeral arrangement.
