The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Gas Company Dr. Ben K. D. Asante has urged players in the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) value chain to be safety conscious in order to prevent explosions in the oil and gas industry.
According to him, Ghana is witnessing sporadic gas explosions because of failure on the part of some players in the industry to adhere to safety standards.
“If you look at the entire LPG value chain from supply to transportation and utilization, we all have to be safety conscious at the time,” he said.
Dr. Ben Asante’s comment follows last Saturday’s gas explosion at Atomic Junction Mansco Gas Filling Station which left 7 people perished including NET 2 TV journalist and 132 others seriously injured.
Speaking to Oman FM on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new board of Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), Dr. Ben Asante stated that the rampant gas explosions should be of utmost concern for all citizens to come together and find a lasting solution to these explosions.
He called on the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to ensure strict enforcement of the regulations governing the oil and gas industry.
