The District Chief Executive for Kpone- Katamanso Assembly in the Greater Accra Region Mr. Solomon Tetteh Appiah has stated categorically that his outfit is not obliged to construct roads.

He explained that the Assemblies are concerned about managing the sanitation in the districts and not fixing roads stressing that "When it comes to roads it is the duty of Urban Roads Department."

“We’re now serious about the sanitation problem because the President is angry,” he said.

The District Chief Executive was responding to residents of New York, Washington and Atadeka in the Kpone Katamanso District who are up in arms against the Assembly for not fixing their poor roads.

The residents are unhappy with Assembly for its inability to fix their road network to give them relief.

The poor state of the road network the residents say is impacting negatively on their health.

Speaking to the press they said the roads had been in bad state for more than six years.

Almost all the road networks in the aforementioned areas have developed potholes, very dusty and become impassable whenever it rains.

The situation they said is fueling crime including armed robbery, saying “Armed robbers have been attacking and robbing us our valuables because they know that when we call police won’t arrive on time due to the nature of the roads.”

“We are appealing to President Akufo-Addo to fix the roads for us. We are suffering because of the bad nature of the roads,” one of the residents said.

A middle aged woman also said “The roads are bad and our children are suffering from dust pollution. We beg the government to consider our plight and fix the road for us.”

A nursing mother who also spoke to Oman News shared her frustrations.

“My brother it is not easy for us…every day I massage my little baby because I use this particular road to go to work everyday.”

The Chairman of New York Taxi Drivers Association, Agya Adu, who expressed displeasure about the poor state of the road, said they are preparing to stage a massive demonstration in protest of the bad nature of the roads.
