The Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has chastised the angry workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for continuously agitating and threatening government with industrial action despite assurances by government that the private participation in the operations of ECG will not result in job losses.

According to him, he does not understand why the workers continues to threaten government when they did not do same to the previous government which even failed to ensure job security for them as far as the Millennium Challenge Corporation Power Compact Two agreement with Ghana is concerned.

The outspoken NPP youth organizer is of the view that the outraged workers of the state power distributor should be grateful to the Akufo-Addo administration for reviewing the agreement which now guarantee their job security rather than showing ingratitude by making unnecessary demands from government.

"Under the NDC government the concessionaire was to manage ECG for 25years, but when the NPP assumed we have reviewed the agreement and now the 25 years has been reduced to 20years.

Again per the agreement Ghana had only 30% while the Millennium Challenge Corporation which is representing the concessionaire was given 70% but after the review Ghana's share is now 51% while MCC being the concessionaire has 49%...So this means government still has control of ECG," he argued.

Speaking on Oman FM's political analysis program “Boiling Point” Kwame Baffoe accused the workers of ECG of engaging in what he described as propaganda.

He lashed out at the ECG workers for making numerous demands and yet failing to improve on their services to the customers.

“Truth be told that your services are very very poor...you demand so much from government but the people of Ghana are not benefiting from your services,” he told the workers angrily.

He backed the decision by the Minister of Energy Boakye Agyarko that any ECG worker who will be paid with severance package should be prepared to exit the company.
