Some Members of Parliament especially those on the Majority side are praising President Nana Akufo-Addo for taken the bold decision by fulfilling his vision of making Senior High Schoo free in Ghana.
According to them, President deserves to be commended because the implementation of Free SHS has lessened the financial burden placed on them by their constituent whose wards are entering Senior High Schools for the first time.
President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday officially launched the Free SHS policy at West Africa Senior High School at Adentan in the Greater Accra.
Over 400,000 BECE students are benefiting from the policy which kick started yesterday.
Speaking on Oman FM’s National Agenda, Member of Parliament for Atiwa Constituency in the Eastern Region Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta could not hide his excitement when he said ” I’m very happy because the Free SHS policy has brought us some relief.”
Parents who cannot afford the cost of admission and other expenses to enroll their wards into Senior High School go and queue at the residence of their MPs for financial assistance.
This therefore imposes huge financial burden on the MPs with some of them at times complaining bitterly.
Although, Hon. Amoako Atta who is also the Minister for Roads and Highway said some parents are still going to come to him for financial assistance because of the continuing Senior High School students, he intimated that the pressure had been reduced because of the Free SHS.
To him, the nation would be the ultimate beneficiary of the policy, stressing there is going to be future doctors who will offer treatment to people like him when he become old and get sick.
“Education is something that every child must receive so we thank Nana Akufo-Addo that by the grace of God he has rolled the Free SHS policy,” he said.
The Member of Parliament for Madina constituency Alhaji Boniface Saddique Abukabar said he is happy Free SHS has become a reality.
He said the policy has brought some form of relief to him.
He urged Ghanaians to remember President Akufo-Addo and his government in theirs prayers by asking God to strengthen and also guiding them.
