The Youth Leader of Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) Felix Mantey has described as shocking revelation by the acting Chief Executive of Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) that unwholesome drugs seized by her outfit are left in the care of persons who imported them, because the authority lacks storage facilities.
Delese Mimi Darko, the acting Chief Executive of FDA, who appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament yesterday told the committee that, they are at times forced to leave the seized drugs in the care of the importers as a result of logistical constraints thus compromising the sanctity of the medicines.
But reacting to the issue on Oman FM’s national agenda Tuesday, Felix Mantey, said it is disgusting for people who are paid by tax payers to take such unreasonable decision.
“How can you arrest cat for stealing your fish and then leave the fish in the care of the same cat who stole the fish to keep watch over it for you,” he quizzed.
He argued that the only thing that would motivate officials of FDA in taken such decisions without being mindful of the fact that the drugs could be smuggled onto the market for sale is financial inducement.
“I will not be far from right in saying that somebody deliberately takes that decision for financial gains,” he alleged.
