A Pro vice chancellor at the Valley View University at Oyibi in the Greater Accra Region, Prof Robert Osei Bonsu, has blamed the myriad of problems confronting the country on the lack of morality among the educated class.
He explained that because of lack of morality that is why there is widespread corruption, thievery, bribery and wrongdoing all over.
"We are witnessing corruption, bribery and all sorts of wrongdoings in the country all because of lack of lack morality," he stressed.
Prof. Bonsu noted that the bane of country was as a result of the fact that our curriculum at the various levels of our education only focus on the mental development of the student without taking into consideration moral or character development of the same.
“Our educational training only focus on the mental (mind) development .We don’t emphasize on the moral and civic role that is why someone completes school and when he /she gets public sector work he/she can pocked projects money and doesn’t care,” he said.
He was of the view that education should be holistic stressing that it should focus on mental, physical, social and spiritual development of the student.
Speaking at the graduation, awards and fund raising ceremony by Seventh Day Adventist Basic Schools, Sea view at Sakumono, Prof Osei Bonsu argued that without the character development of students Ghana will still be confronted with challenges.
He thus underscored the need to introduce “Ethics as a subject into our curriculum at the various levels of education to groom students to be patriotic and responsible citizens.
“At Valley View University where I teach there is a subject called Ethics and we make sure that every student studies it so that you will know the difference between right and wrong and the consequences of the choices you make.”
