The presidency has revealed that a list of 17 staff of the Electoral Commission was attached to a petition which was submitted to the President seeking to impeach the chairperson of the Commission, Mrs. Charlotte Osei.

This is according to the director of communications at the presidency, Mr. Eugene Arhin.

A statement signed by Mr. Eugene Arhin earlier today indicated that President pursuant to the terms of Article 146(3) had referred the petition to the Chief Justice for resolution.

It would be recalled the Mrs. Charlotte Osei had challenged the authenticity of the petition on the basis that Mr. Maxwell Opoku Agyeman, who is the lawyer of the petitioners of representing faceless people.

Eugene Arhin who was speaking to Oman News stated that the petitioners chronicled a number of issues they deemed constitute grounds for the removal of the chairperson of EC.

He dismissed claims by the minority Members of Parliament that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was behind the petition.

According to him, all the names captured in the list attached to the petition are staff of the EC but could not disclose it when pressed for.

He charged the Minority and members of the opposition National Democratic Congress to desist from their usual propaganda and stop linking NPP and President Akufo Addo to the petition.

Eugene Arhin explained that the President and his administration are focusing on delivering on their campaign promises to Ghanaians stressing that government has no hand in the ongoing EC saga.
