A Former Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West in the Central Hon. Ben Aryeh is calling on the police to invite the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Mr Kofi Portuphy, for questioning over his allegation that members of the ruling NPP are behind the recent killing of police officers.
Mr. Portuphy at a press conference Thursday, said “very credible intelligence reaching us has it that a lot of the armed robbery and killing of our hardworking police officers is being done by militant goons associated with the NPP.”
Apart from the well-known NPP militant groups such as Invisible Forces and Delta Forces, Mr. Portuphy said there also exists another group with ‘blood-curdling’ name ‘Volta Crocodiles’.
He said the activities of these violent groups have worn out the police because the groups ultimately have political backing of ‘Godfathers’ in government.
But speaking on Oman Fm's National Agenda on Friday the former legistator described as irresponsible claims by the National Chiarman of the opposition NDC.
According to him, for the calibre of Mr. Kofi Portuphy to use a press conference to peddle such a wild allegation without first of all making the information available to the police or national security for action means he is not a responsible citizen.
"If he was a responsible citizen per his stature he wouldnt sit on such information; he should have reported it to the police or national security and if they don't act on it you could then come on air and say it," he asserted.
Hon. Ben Aryeh is incensed that Mr Portuphy, is still walking freely despite making such a serious allegation.
"I had expected that immediately after the press conference this man would be invited by the police for questioning because of his stature in society," he said.
He charged the IGP and the National Security not to pamper Mr Portuphy and invite him for questioning.
