The Minister for Transport Mr. Kweku Ofori Asiamah has urged Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and other agencies operating at the Tema port to speedy up the processes to ensure smooth implementation of paperless transaction policy beginning September 1, this year.
He stressed government would not accept any excuse if they are not able to meet the deadline for the programme to start on September 1st.
Mr. Ofori Asiamah intimated that the programme is dear to the heart of President Akufo-Addo administration and called on GPHA and Meridian Ports Services (MPS) to make sure that all the agencies are integrated on one platform to ensure successful implementation of the programme.
The Transport Minister made the call on Monday, when he and officials from the Ministry including the deputy minister Hon. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover paid a working visit to the Tema port.
The visit was to assess the readiness of the various agencies ahead of the implementation of paperless transaction policy as well as the progress of work on the ongoing port expansion project being executed by Meridian Port Services.

Mr. Kweku Ofori Asiamah and his entourage visited the main Harbour, fishing Harbour, Port Expansion Project, Tema Traditional Council and Tema Maritime Hospital at Community Three.
The Acting Director General of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) Mr Paul Asare Ansah briefing the Transport Minister said “There are lots of standalone systems that are already paperless but said the challenge is integrating the current standalone system to have an integrated electronic data interface system.”

But responding to him, the Transport Minister who was concerned about the fact that there is limited time said “If by 1st September we are implementing the policy then we have to be ahead of time, because if we don’t do it and we are not be able to monitor what is happening at the port it will be difficult.”
“As much as you are doing your best I believe you have to speedy up the processes if you have to work 24 hours do it,” he added.
