Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Albert Boakye Okyere has urged residents of Ashaiman to embrace the National Sanitation Day exercise and participate to make the municipality a clean place to live.
The MCE who decried the poor attitudes of residents toward sanitation said the Assembly's effort in ridding the area of filth will not materialize if t they do not change their attitudes.
"Ashaiman has gained notoriety when it comes to sanitation issues. So have to agree that it's time we change that status by not throwing refuse indiscriminately, desisting from open defecation and stop throwing refuse into drains when it is raining, "he advised.

Mr. Albert Boakye Okyere made the call when he visited parts of Ashaiman, where residents took part in the National Sanitation Day exercise.
He also visited Presbyterian School Junction where a refuse transfer site has been created to see level of progress of ongoing evacuation exercise.
He expressed satisfaction about the exercise.

He disclosed that the Assembly will close down the site after the evacuation exercise.
He told Oman FM that the Assembly was also reviewing its sanitation by-laws to ensure that stiffer punishment is meted out to offenders.

"The current sanitation by-law is not stiffer enough so we are reviewing it to prescribe stiffer punishment,” he stressed.
