A retired officer of the Ghana Armed Forces WO1 Richard Nickson has warned of the possibility of a civil war in the country if the instant justice and rising mob attack does not cease immediately.
Richard Nickson who decried the practice explained that it will get to a point where relatives of victims of instant justice will retaliate and that he said will spark civil war.
He was commenting on the barbaric killing of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama by angry youth of Denkyira Boase in the Central Region last Monday.
Captain Maxwell Mahama who was said to be jogging along the road was allegedly mistaken to be a suspected armed robber. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]Speaking on Adom FM's political programme "Burning Issues" on Wednesday Richard Nickson condemned in no uncertain terms the murder of Captain Mahama.
He warned that the consequences of such acts could cost the nation greatly.
"We should be careful we don't throw this beautiful country into civil war. Because if you kill my relatives I may also mobilize and retaliate and kill and this will lead to civil war, “he warned.
He attributed the recent instant justice to loss of confidence in the police service due to their inability to provide concrete evidence against people who have committed crime leading to suspected criminals being acquitted by the courts.
Reminiscing what occurred during the infamous June 4th, 1979 uprising, he stated that corruption and injustices were the events which triggered the June 4th and urged the government to arrest the suspects and prosecute them to avoid recurrence of June 4th.
