Former Minister of Trade and Industry Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbah has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to show leadership and use the coercive forces of the state to restore law and order in the country.
“I call on the President of the Republic, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to show leadership and use the coercive forces of the state to restore law and order in the country as same seem to be in abeyance.”
His call follows the barbaric lynching of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama, on Monday, May 29, 2017 by the angry youth of Denkyira Boase in the Central Region who allegedly mistook him to be a robber.
Dr. Spio Garbah who condemned the act further called on the Military High Command to bring its expertise to bear in ensuring that the morale of our gallant men and women in the forces is not unduly lowered.
In a facebook post the former Trade and Industry Minister called on the citizenry especially those in Diaso and anyone who may have information on what led to the brutish murder of Capt. Mahama, to assist and cooperate with law enforcement agencies mandated to uncover the perpetrators of this dastardly act and bring them to book.

With an extremely deeply sored heart, I extend my deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Capt. Maxwell Mahama who was allegedly murdered without any provocation by irate youth of Diaso on or about Monday, May 29, 2017.
The actions of the said youth or whoever the perpetrators of this despicable and dastardly act demand the highest form of condemnation and I, unreservedly and without equivocation, condemn this barbaric and utterly inhumane act.
The recent acts of lawlessness that have besieged our nation goes a long way to erode the gains made in our democratic experiment. I call on the President of the Republic, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to show leadership and use the coercive forces of the state to restore law and order in the country as same seem to be in abeyance.
Admittedly, the sad event of yesterday has the potential of destroying the beautiful military-civilian relationship we have enjoyed as a nation particularly under the Fourth Republic. I further call on the Military High Command to bring its expertise to bear in ensuring that the morale of our gallant men and women in the forces is not unduly lowered. We the civilians stand shoulder to shoulder with the Military in these difficult and incomprehensible moments.
I further call on the citizenry especially those in Diaso and anyone who may have information on what led to the brutish murder of Capt. Mahama, to assist and cooperate with law enforcement agencies mandated to uncover the perpetrators of this dastardly act and bring them to book.
Even as we mourn our quintessential hero, Capt. Mahama, I entreat the N.C.C.E and other mandated institutions to educate the general public on our civic responsibilities especially our contribution to the maintenance of law and order in the country. Mob action and the so-called instant justice as condemnable as they are, are a manifestation of a citizenry that has lost hope completely in state institutions that are mandated to deal decisively and timeously with crime in any form.
I entreat the Ghana Police Service to as a matter of urgency, work tirelessly to restore public confidence in that institution which is in the forefront of fighting crime and internal aggression.
My sincere condolences again to the family of the late Capt. Mahama, especially his spouse and children, the entire Military and people of Ghana for this undeserved loss!!
God be with us all!!
