New Ashaiman MCE Hints Of Decongestion Exercise

The newly elected Municipal Chief Executive for Ashaiman Mr. Albert Boakye Okyere has hinted of embarking on a decongestion exercise to rid the town of unauthorized structures, to ensure free flow of vehicular movement.

According to him, the traffic congestion in the town which is as a result of unauthorized structures and trading activities along the roads has become a worry to many residents of Ashaiman.

"There is too much congestion in Ashaiman and this is the worry of many people who have spoken with me on the current situation and so immediate step I will take is decongesting the area," he said.

It is an eyesore how petty traders have taken over parts of the dual carriageway and plying their business activities in the full glare of the Ashaiman Municipal Taskforce employed to ensure sanity town particularly the central business district.

The traffic situation becomes worse especially on Monday's and Thursday's which the major market days are for the people.

Speaking in an interview with Oman News, Mr. Albert Okyere indicated that the decongestion exercise would go on unabated.

He explained that there are structures which have been cited in unapproved places stressing that such structures have to be cleared to make way for vehicles and human beings to people to move freely.

The Assembly, he said, will engage the Assembly members in all the electoral areas and other stakeholders to explain to them the need for the exercise before it commences.

Mr. Okyere noted further that another major concern of the people in Ashaiman is the huge refuse at the transfer site near the Presby School and promised to tackle the situation immediately.

He called on all the stakeholders to support the Assembly to transform Ashaiman Municipality.
