The Assembly Member for Horticulture Electoral Area in Tema community 4 Hon. Richard Aning has urged corporate bodies in Tema Metropolis to contribute towards cleaning the Tema Township.

He explained that it was about time the corporate bodies support assembly members and various youth clubs to embark on cleaning up exercises to clean Tema to restore its former glory as the cleanest city in Ghana and West Africa.

"I believe it’s about time that corporate bodies in Tema metropolis contribute their part in helping to clean the area because the current situation doesn't speak well and I think they should be concerned about it and support in ridding the city of filth," he stressed.

He noted that most of the communities in Tema have come filthy and blamed the situation on poor attitudes of the residents.

Hon. Richard Aning was speaking to Oman FM during a cleaning-up exercise he organized in collaboration with pro-government group Coalition to Elect Nana Addo and Bawumia (CENAB) and HOPE to clean parts of Tema community 4.

He expressed disgust at residents who do not show interest in cleaning up exercises saying such behaviour is unacceptable and called on them to rethink.

He said the cleaning up exercise was timely especially when the rains have set in.

Hon. Anning appealed to the residents to clean their immediate surroundings and also ensure that all the gutters are desilted to avoid flooding this year.

On her part, the Tema Chapter President of HOPE Ms Akosua Safoa urged residents of Tema to cultivate the habit of cleanliness.

This she explained would enable them to prevent outbreak of cholera and malaria.

She urged residents of Tema to ensure that all the gutters in their neighbourhood are desilted to avoid flooding following the onset of rains.
