Minister for Finance Mr. Ken Ofori–Atta has challenged the Ghana
Revenue Authority to strive hard to achieve their projected revenue
target of GHC34.8 billion for 2017.
“This year GRA is expected to collect 34.8billion cedis which is 34%
percent increase from last year as government tax revenues while the
Customs Division in particular is also expected to collect a total of
14billion cedis. That’s a good target,” he said.
Mr. Ken Ofori Atta threw the challenge during a pulling out ceremony in
honour of the outgoing Commissioner of Customs Division of the
(GRA) Mr. John Vianney Kuudamnuru.
The finance Minister who commended Customs Division of GRA for
improving on revenue collection and compliance revealed that the
Division has been able to collect an amount of 2.7 billion Ghana CEDI's
as at the first quarter of this year as tax revenue with about 10.8 billion
cedis to be collected.
“As at March 2017 revenue collected by Customs Division amounted to
2.7 billion so you have 10.8 to collect,” he stressed.
He pledged government commitment to continue to equip GRA with
both human and logistics support to execute their mandate.
Mr. Ken Ofori -Atta urged the incoming Commissioner of the Customs
Division of GRA, Mr. Isaac Crentsil to work hard to achieve their target.
On his part, the new Commissioner of Customs Division of Ghana
Revenue Authority, Isaac Crentsil assured of his commitment to work
hard and utilize the limited resources at their disposal to meet their target
for 2017.
He called on the staff to support him assuring that no staff will be
victimized in the course of his or her duty.
“I’m just an individual but for the assignment to be accomplished it will
require a team work .We therefore need a dedicated team, a team made
up a humble, listening and accommodating commissioner, a faithful
cooperative and understating management and a strong energetic and
honest crop of staff to succeed,” he noted.
He called on the staff to close their ranks and work hard to ensure
efficiency.
Mr. Crentsil promised to work closely with all the staff by opening his
door to everyone in order to achieve their target.
The outgoing Commissioner of the Customs Division, John Vianney
Kuudamnuru, took the opportunity to thank all for the opportunities
offered and promised to continue to share ideas with the ministry of
finance and the customs division.
