New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region, Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum is urging President Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party government to investigate former appointees and ministers of the previous administration and prosecute those who indulged in illegal deals resulting to huge debts in the various Ministries, Department and Agencies.
The MP who accused the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration of leaving behind huge debt in almost every sector of the economy believed most the debts did not genuinely occurred hence the need to open investigations into them.
"Almost every ministry there is a huge debt sitting in their account books", he noted.
Speaking on Oman FM's political analysis programme "Boiling Point", Hon Agyekum, who lamented bitterly about the way NDC handled the economy said, it is heartbreaking that the NDC administration could be so wicked to Ghanaians.
The MP, who is popularly known as Arafat noted that, the debts portfolio of most of the ministries are bigger than the budget parliament approved for them this year.
Arafat as he is popularly called stressing on the seriousness of the debt situation at the various ministries noted that, the Ministry of Roads and Highway for example owes Ghc18billion yet parliament approved less than Ghc1billion budget for the ministry for 2017.
“The agency which surprises me most is the Ghana School Feeding Programme. They owe about Ghc400million, but parliament approved only Gh200million for them. So incase the so- called debtors are coming the management of the programme decide to settle their debt it means they will be left with nothing,” he stated.
The Fanteakwa South MP who lambasted Mahama administration for plunging the country in into economic mess said the situation is so dire that it will be difficult to come out anytime soon.
