Bribery scandal: Ghartey report laid before Parliament

The much awaited report by the five-member ad hoc committee probing the bribery scandal that hit the Appointments Committee of Parliament has been laid before the House, awaiting debate.

The 50-page report was presented before the House in a form of motion on Wednesday.

This means that the content of the report will be debated by members of the house.

The Speaker of Parliament on January 31 constituted the five member committee chaired by Joe Ghartey, a former Attorney General to probe the bribery scandal that rocked the Joe Osei Owusu-led Vetting Committee.

This followed claims by Mahama Ayariga, a member of the committee that Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko tried luring the minority members of the committee with GHC3,000 each through the chairman of the vetting committee, Mr. Osei Owusu and the Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, so he could be recommended for approval following his edgy vetting.

Debate on the report has been deferred to tomorrow, March 30.
