The Ashaiman Traditional Council in collaboration with a group calling itself Ga-Dangme Youth Movement have threatened to demonstrate against President Akufo-Addo including locking the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, if non Ga-Dangme indigene is appointed as Municipal Chief Executive for Ashaiman.

"We will embark on a demonstration to register our displeasure if our plea is not adhered to by the President. In fact, we will also lock the Assembly le the appointing authorities know that we are serious," they declared.

At a joint press conference addressed by the regent of Ashaiman Nii Annang Adzor (II) and spokesperson for Ga-Dangme Youth Movement Ebenezer Amanor, they argued that the MCE position is a preserve for Ga-Dangme’s since they are the custodial owners of the land.

"Any other position such as that of the Member of Parliament, members to the Assembly, presiding member is opened to any qualified person staying in Ashaiman to compete for, but that of the Municipal Chief Executive is a preserve for the indigenes of Ga-Dangme’s," they averred.

Speaking to Oman News in an interview after the press conference, Nii Annang Adzor (II), who accused the governing New Patriotic Party of treating the traditional council unfairly vowed to lead his subjects to hit the streets if the MCE nominee is not an indigene of Ga-Dangme.

He indicated that, the traditional council shortlisted about 5 people and submitted the names to the constituency executives of the NPP for onward submission to the presidency to consider one of them for the position.

He expressed surprise that, although the vetting process for the selection of the MMDAs had been done, none of the 5 people they shortlisted was invited for vetting.

This, according to Nii Annang Adzor (II) has made them to believe that there was a deliberate move by the party to deny an indigene of the MCE position.
