A member of the Progressive People’s Party Communication Team, Charles Owusu Cole has expressed disgust at those criticizing President Akufo-Addo over the size of his government.

President Akufo-Addo has come under heavy criticism from section of Ghanaians including civil society groups such as IMANI Ghana and CDD for appointing 110 ministers.

They argued that it is needless for the President to have appointed huge number of ministers since the country’s economy is weak.

But reacting to the issue on Oman FM’s “Boiling Pointon Thursday, Charles Owusu, who admitted that 110 ministers were huge, however, said “I see nothing wrong with the size of the government.”

“Yes it is true that we have not had this number of ministers under the 4th Republic, but I see nothing wrong with it,” he declared.

He was of the view that Ghanaians should be praising the President for being sincere with them rather than condemning him.

He noted that unlike former President Mr. John Dramani Mahama who appointed 680 presidential staffers, but failed to inform Ghanaians until his exit when their names popped up, President Akufo-Addo on the other hand had been transparent and sincere.

He wondered why those criticizing the president had failed to talk about the output of the appointees and are rather focusing their discussion on the salaries and emolument they will be entitled to.

Charles Owusu stressed the need for the critics to situate the discussion of the issue in proper context instead of playing politics.

“Why is it that they are not talking about the output of the ministers but only talking about what they will be entitled to,” he quizzed.

He urged Ghanaians to be patient and not allow politics cloud their minds saying, “After the four years mandate we will assess them and if we think we are not satisfied with the performance of the government then we can say goodbye to them.”
