Headmaster of Breman Gyamerah Methodist Primary School in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District of the Central Region, Jacob Amissah, has appealed to the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service to transfer all the teachers in the school for the sake of their safety.
According to him, the teachers are now living in fears following the collapsed of the nursery block on Monday, January 30, 2017, which killed six of the pupils.
Mr. Amissah intimated that the youth of the town and some relatives of the deceased children have threatened to harm the teachers, hence his call for their immediate transfer and replacement.
"Per the information we have gathered so far we think it will not auger well if the teachers continued to stay in this community, because even on the day of the incident, some town folks carried stones and sticks and went to the home of these teachers with the intent of beating them up," he explained.
The school was closed down, but Mr Jacob Amissah said "we are planning to reopen on Monday, January 6, 2017.
Speaking to Oman News, Mr Amissah was doubtful whether the teachers would return to school on Monday as planned.
“I’m not even sure the teachers will return to school because they are scary."
This, he explained, is because majority of the teachers travelled to their home towns following the incident leaving about three teachers still in the town.
Asked whether he also wished to be transferred Mr. Amissah responded in the positive, saying "I'm even the target."
Meanwhile, the six children were buried last Thursday morning despite resistance by the angry town folks.
