The Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Mr Richard A. Y Anamoo has been relieved of his post.

Aggrieved workers at the Tema and the Takoradi ports rose against the GPHA Boss last week demanding his removal from office following accusations leveled against him by the Junior Staff Union of GPHA.

It is unclear whether the directive from the presidency, is linked to the agitation by the aggrieved workers at GPHA.

The Junior staff of Tema and Takoradi unions of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority(GPHA) last week called for the dismissal of the Director General of the GPHA, Richard Anamoo with immediate effect.

According to the agitated staff, Mr Anamoo had promoted over 1000 people after the December elections, which they suspected some foul play.

According to the union, from January 2012 to November 2016 over a period of four years, only 378 staff were promoted to various levels and categories.

They believe these promotions in the past month were politically motivated.

For both Tema and Takoradi ports, 265 staff were engaged from January 2012 to November 2016 however the period before and after the election have witnessed massive employment of new staff totaling about 800 including contract staff.

Aside the last hour recruitment and promotions, the unions also accused the embattled Director General of awarding several contracts at a dying minute to exit office. Some contracts pending as old as 45 years, according to the employees had been cleared by the outgoing DG.

“Whoever will take over from Anamoo, if that person decides to terminate those contracts in the interest of the state, he’ll commit the government to pay huge judgment debts. If Anamoo continue to stay any longer at the Port as the Director General, he’ll bring GPHA to its knees. The President must not waste time to remove him now.

GPHA has huge prospects and can develop Ghana. Almost all of your election promises can be catered for by GPHA,” the Secretary of the junior staff union, Keku Amorquarsi Amuzuah said.
