GPHA staff accuses Director General of abuse of office

“He(Mr. Anamoo) has also duped the authority and the state of millions of dollars in the name of port expansion projects, automation of the port (IT), buying of equipment and crafts,” he alleged.
Amorquasi Amuzuah also accused the Director General of GPHA for allowing his son to use the authority’s residential facility at community 6 as recording studio, pub, hotel, party grounds and shooting of movies without paying a dime.
Aside Mr. Anamoo’s son using the facility for his private businesses, the GPHA also provided him with a cook, cleaners, two police officers and two security guards from Westec Security at the cost of the Authority.
“In addition to free electricity and water paid for by the authority, GPHA also provided a cook, cleaners and laundry services to the son at the residence.
“Interestingly, Mr. Anamoo made his son vacate the residence just a day after President Nana Akufo-Addo was declared winner of the 2016 elections,” Amorquasi Amuzuah.
Questionable Promotions
Amorquasi Amuzuah complained bitterly about what he described as politically motivated promotions and back dating of contracts which took place following the declaration of the December 7 elections results which saw Nana Akufo-Addo emerging as the President of the Republic of Ghana.
He explained that between January 2012 and November 2016 only 378 staff were promoted for over a period of four years, but said “within one month after the declaration of the election results from 10th December 2016 to 15th January, 2017, over 1000 staff have been promoted to the various levels and categories.”
“Most of these promotions were politically motivated,” he stressed.
Alarming Rate of Employment
Amorquasi Amuzuah also revealed that GPHA under the watch of Mr. Richard Anamoo had recruited 800 new staff within a period of one month after the December 7 elections.
This, he explained, had created a huge wage bill for the Authority.
Demand for Action
The workers called on the President Nana Akufo-Addo to sack Mr Richard Anamoo as Director General of GPHA with immediate effect since he was appointed by the immediate past government.
They also called on government to set up a committee to probe into all the ports expansion projects and other projects in Tema and Takoradi ports and also find owners behind the companies executing the local content aspect of the expansion projects.
“We are also calling on government to investigate and if possible reverse all the politically motivated recruitments and promotions.”

The Junior Staff of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in Tema and Takoradi ports are accusing their Director General Mr. Richard A.Y Anamoo of abuse of his office.
Addressing a press conference in Tema, Thursday, the Secretary of the Tema branch Junior Staff Union of GPHA Keku Amorquasi Amuzuah indicated that GPHA had witnessed an unprecedented level of corruption, nepotism and cronyism ever since Mr. Richard Anamoo took over in 2012.
