Pastor Dr. John Shaka
A former inmate of the Osu Children's Home and now the Head Pastor of Johannesburg branch of International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), South Africa, Dr. R. K John Shaka, has called for the dismissal of the Director of the Department of Social Welfare Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Otoo and the management of the Home.
He accused Mr. Otoo and management of the Osu Children's Home for mismanaging the facility which accommodates hundreds of orphans and under-privileged children in the society.
Dr. Shaka also claimed that the director who is residing at the Home has connived with some of the managers and so are keeping items and cash donations for the children for their personal use.
Speaking to Oman FM in a telephone interview, Dr. R. K. Shaka, who is currently in Ghana, indicated that he had proof to his claims, explaining that his proofs would shock Ghanaians.
"Apostle Kwadwo Osafo of Christo Asafo donated some items including money to the Home, but Mr. Otoo and the management diverted the gestures," Dr. Shaka alleged.
In view of that, he maintained that Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Otoo must be removed from office because he could not be trusted to run the Osu Children's Home.
Mr. Otoo's latest inhumane treatment to the inmates, Dr. Shaka recounted was the former's declining permission to the children to go and witness the swearing-in ceremony of the President Akufo-Addo at the Black Star Square.
"As if that was not enough, Mr. Otoo passed unpalatable comments about the children," Dr. Shaka said.
He, thus, called on the Minister designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba to take urgent steps to get Emmanuel Kofi Otoo removed after the appointment committee of parliament had approved her portfolio.
Later, an insider who spoke to Oman FM on condition of anonymity corroborated the allegations by Dr. John Shaka and backed the call for the removal of the director and management of the Home.
According to the source, the conduct of the management led by the director was repugnant, accusing them of being insensitive to the children.
Our source indicated that last year, Kristo Asafo and Dolly Preparatory School in Cantonment, a suburb of Accra, made a donation of cash and items worth Ghc20,000 and Ghc4,000 respectively; however, the children were malnourished for five consecutive times.
