Workers of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Limited (BOST) have refuted media reports suggesting that the two state-owned corporations are being mismanaged by their Managing Director (MD) Kingsley Kwame Awuah Darko.
According to the workers, there is no iota of truth in the allegations of shaddy deals at TOR as well as BOST making a loss of Ghc 32 million between January and September this year.
"BOST trading business has never been in the red since the company started trading. In fact, BOST will declare its end of year profit in a few days to the people of Ghana and its workers as it does every year, " the workers pointed out.
The workers accused The Finder newspaper of spearheading what they described as lies and false publication aimed to tarnish the image of the management of BOST and TOR.
At a joint press conference addressed by John Elton Botchwey, TOR branch chairman of the General Transport Petroleum and Chemical Workers' Union, in Tema, he expressed shock at how The Finder newspaper chose to paint a bad picture about TOR and BOST, when the two companies, which were virtually brought to their knees by previous management, had now been revived and making profit under Kingsley Awuah Darko, the new MD.
"Fuel security under Kwame Awuah Darko's leadership at BOST and TOR has improved with consistent fuel supply for the past 30 months. As a result of the synergy between BOST and TOR, there is about $100 million cut in the importation of finished petroleum product for each month," John Elton Botchwey indicated.
TOR's production, he continued, had been boosted from 28,000 barrel per day (bpd) to 45,000 bpd, stressing that the refinery would be increasing production to about 60,000 bpd with the commercialization of F61.
The workers disclosed that TOR had, since February to date, processed seven million litres of fuel products from crude.
The workers were suspicious that someone, who is interested in taking up the position of the MD of TOR and BOST, was hiding behind The Finder to dent the image of the management, since a new government is taking over from January 7, 2017.

They further called on the public to disregard claims by the Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Agyapong that he had a contract document from TOR which suggested that the MD had engaged in dubious award of contract.
Speaking to Oman News, the National Chairman of General Transport Petroleum and Chemical Workers' Union, Bernard Owusu, who doubles as Union Chairman of BOST, stated the MD and his team had done well contrary to the media reports.
"We are not here to defend what is wrong but we are here to defend the truth," he stressed.
