The Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region Kennedy Agyapong has accused the Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) for awarding a dubious contract to his cronies.
He said Kingsley Kwame Awuah Darko who doubles as MD of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) on 5th December, 2016, signed a contractual agreement with about five companies to repair some storage tanks at the refinery at a cost of Ghc20, 959,019.50.
The companies were GVC Limited (Ltd), Anas Engineering Company Ltd, Collins Kwakye Company Ltd, Sacham Construction Ghana and Ransap Engineering Company Ltd.
GVC Ltd alone, Kennedy Agyapong said, was awarded a whopping Ghc12million of the contract while Sachem Construction Ghana secured Ghc 1,061 507, with the remaining three companies sharing the remaining of the total contract sum.
He alleged that the aforementioned companies were a creation of Awuah Darko and his cronies to defraud the nation.
Speaking to Fiifi Boafo, host of Oman FM's National Agenda Show, the maverick politician and businessman raised eyebrow over the cost and timing of the contract saying, "It was too expensive."
He argued that his checks indicated that it would cost TOR 20% addition of the total cost of the maintenance works on the storage tanks to procure brand new tanks, thus, wondered why Mr. Darko chose to repair the old storage tanks instead of procuring new ones.
"This tells you the interest of Awuah Darko on this whole contract," he stated.
Kennedy Agyapong also revealed how Awuah Darko's insatiable desire for dubious deals made him to reject a technical committee's report on a $19 million project and changed the figure to $26 million, despite objection by some of the management team of TOR.
In view of this, the Assin Central MP said he had served the TOR MD a notice that the incoming Nana Akufo Addo administration would review all the contracts that had been signed under his leadership and would punish anyone found to have engaged in an illegal transaction.
He called on the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Kwaku Agyeman Manu to advise his son, who is a staff of TOR, to desist from conspiring with Awuah Darko to rob the state.
Akompreko, as he is affectionately called, said Nana Addo's government would not treat him with kids' gloves because his father is a member of the NPP.
"NPP will not deal with Awuah Darko and allow Kwaku Agyeman Manu's son to go scot-free. We will punish them and anybody who has stolen state money," Kennedy Agyapong assured.
