Some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashaiman constituency in the Greater Accra Region have served notice to sleep at the Ashaiman District Police Station after the close of polls today, to make sure that the ballot boxes used for the special voting were safeguarded.
According to the supporters, they would organize themselves into two groups to monitor the ballot boxes both day and night to ensure that nobody tempers with them.
They explained that their decision is borne out of an intelligence they have gathered that EC and NDC had conspired to temper with the ballot boxes.
They indicated that they would not leave the police alone to provide security for the ballot boxes because the actions of EC and NDC have proven beyond reasonable doubt they want to rig the elections in favour President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking to Oman News in an interview, NPP Women Organizer for Ashaiman Constituency Hajia Lad Suraji said the party would not allow itself to be cheated in any elections again.
She said the party had learnt enough lessons after the 2012 Election Petition stressing that they were prepared to do everything possible to stop the EC and NDC from rigging this year’s elections.
“We’re going to joke at all this time around because if we do all our efforts and time we have spent campaigning will be in vain,” she stated.
“We will be sleeping at the police station from today (Thursday) up till December 7,” she added.

The Ashaiman coordinator for NPP’s Volunteer Groups (V16) and former Assembly member for Obaakekye Electoral Area Mr. Thomas Adongo noted that the presiding Judge on the Election Petition case made them to understand that elections were won at the polling station.
“Justice Atuguba made us to understand during the election petition hearing that elections are won at the polling stations. So as interested party we are going to sleep here to ensure the safety of the ballot boxes.
He said the party would not entrust the security of the ballot boxes in care of the police alone because the Ashaiman District Police Commander has demonstrated bias towards the NPP.
