The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV has been elected President of the National House of Chiefs.

Togbe Afede beat three others, Awulae Atibrukusu III the Omanhene of the Lower Axim area, who is also the vice president of the house, the Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin and Nana Kwabena Nketia VI, the Omanhene of the Essikado Traditional area to occupy his new position.

He will take over from Naa Professor John Nabila, who has ended his term of office.

Prof Nabila was elected in 2008 and has served eight years in office superintending over various chieftaincy issues, land issues and other matters of concern to the chieftaincy institution.

Togbe Afede will now preside over the affairs of an institution which has now come under a barrage of criticism following the indiscriminate and endorsement of flagbearers in the upcoming December elections by a section of chiefs and traditional leaders across the country.

He will seek to repair that image and restore the reverence that has been associated with the chieftaincy institution.

Togbe Afede is supported by Dasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, Abeadzehene as the Vice president of the House of Chiefs.
