The Policy Advisor of the New Patriotic Party Mr Boakye Agyarko has warned the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission madam Charlotte Osei to shelve any intention to rig the December elections in favour of President John Dramani Mahama else what would happen to her would be more than rapture.
According to him, recent utterances of the EC chairperson gives them a cause to worry about the possibility of EC rigging the elections for presidential candidate of the governing National Democratic Congress Mr. John Mahama.
Mr Boakye Agyarko claimed that Madam Charlotte Osei on Monday told an Accra based radio station that there was certainly going to be winners and losers in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections and went ahead to mention that presidential candidate of All Progressive People's (APC) Dr. Hassan Ayariga would be among the possible losers.
He expressed surprise at EC chairperson for making such a definite pronouncement when the elections have not been held.
Speaking on Oman FM, Mr. Agyarko who accused Madam Charlotte Osei of being arrogant and adamant contended that if she had made those comments elsewhere should would have been made to apologise or resign from her post.
"Why would you say that this candidate is going to lose the elections when you are supposed to be a referee? Is Charlotte Osei saying that even if a particular candidate wins she will declare that candidate a loser and declare the loser rather a winner?" he queried.
Touching on Madam Charlotte Osei's statement in an interview with BBC that she would call for recount of the presidential results if is too close, Mr Boakye Agyarko said : "When I heard Charlotte Osei saying that I said to myself that either this women is blocked headed and ignorant of the electoral laws or she is playing diabolical game."
He challenged Madam Charlotte Osei on what what authority she has to call for recount of the results saying it is not within her remit to order for recount of the results.
According to him, it is the sole responsibility of the contesting candidates to call for recount of election results and urged Madam Charlotte Osei to broaden her scope of knowledge regarding the electoral laws.
