Tema Mayor calls for peaceful co-existence

The 3rd edition of the Tema Meridian Cultural Festival (TEMERIFEST) was marked on Saturday with a call on the various tribes in the metropolis to coexist peacefully. The colourful ceremony which was under the theme "Peace, Unity and Development in Cosmopolitan Tema" brought together people from all walks of life including chiefs, queen mothers, traders and students.


TEMERIFEST, which was initiated by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in collaboration with Tema Traditional Council three year's ago is aimed to promote peace and harmony among the various tribes within the Tema Metropolitan Area. It afforded the residents of Tema the opportunity to witness the rich cultural display of various tribes in the country.


Addressing the gathering, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Hon Isaac Ashai Odamtten, who stressed on the importance and uniqueness of TEMERIFEST noted that it had become a unique platform for showcasing of rich culture of the various tribes in Tema. Hon Ashai Odamtten asserted that TEMERIFEST had come to stay and promised residents of Tema of more exciting times ahead as the programme he said would take another dimension in the years ahead.



He commended the Tema Traditional Council and all the tribal heads for collaborating with the Assembly to ensure the success of the programme. Touching on the theme "Peace, Unity and Development in Cosmopolitan Tema, he said, peace and unity are prerequisite for sustainable development saying without peace and unity there cannot be any meaningful developments. "Without peace and unity there cannot be any development. Today, we can all beat our chest and pat our shoulders and say yes we have come this far because we're living in peace and united,"he stated. He called on the residents to embrace peace and coexist so as to push the development of Tema forward. Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten enumerated a number of projects the assembly under his leadership has executed including providing infrastructures for some public schools and construction of markets to boost trading activities in the Tema metropolis.
