Professor Emmanuel Asante
Veteran journalist Mr. Osbert Lartey has expressed disappointment in the Chairman of the National Peace Council Professor Emmanuel Asante for failing to condemn General Secretary of NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketsia for his recent tribal comments.
I’m very disappointed in the Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC). I know him very well and I must say that he has disappointed me throughout my twenty seven as a journalist,” he stated.
He expressed surprised that Professor Emmanuel Asante has remained silence despite the damning tribal comment which has the possibility of fueling confusion in the country.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia addressing supporters of the NDC in Upper East Region on Saturday 15 October, at the campaign launch of Tempane MP, David Adakudugu, who is also the NDC's parliamentary nominee for the 7 December 2016 elections, said people of northern extraction are seen as second-class citizens by the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said as a result of the NPP's disregard for northerners, no northern member of the party who qualifies to be president has ever been given the opportunity to run for the highest office of the land.
Speaking on Oman FM’s National Agenda Osbert Lartey wondered why Professor Emmanuel Asante has not issued a statement to condemn Mr. John Asiedu as he would have quickly done if it were to be a member of the opposition party.
“Is Professor Emmanuel Asante saying that he is not aware of what is happening in this country? He should wake up if he is sleeping because I don’t understand why he is silent,” he stressed.
He castigated Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketsia and the ruling NDC for engaging in tribal politics.
