The New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Zebilla Constituency in the Upper East Mr. Frank Fuseini Adongo has accused the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area Hon. Cletus Avorka of engaging in vote buying.
He claimed the MP has been sharing a lot of items and cash to the electorates to influence them ahead of the December 7 polls.
“The MP has seen that the people of Zebilla have lost confidence in him so he has resorted to vote buying here and there. He is sharing motor bikes, bicycles and money everywhere in the constituency,” he explained.
Speaking to Oman FM in an exclusive interview Mr. Fuseini Adongo, who condemned Hon. Cletus Avorka for engaging in illegality, also expressed disappointment in him for failing to be a development agent of the people of Zebilla.
He described as regrettable that there is not a single project that Hon. Cletus Avorka has personally executed for his constituents for the past 20 years he had represented them in parliament.
“He had been in parliament for 20 years now and at least we know his colleagues in NDC who have been in parliament for between 4 and 16 years and we are aware of the massive growth in their constituencies. We have seen the developmental projects that they have brought there, but he personally cannot point to anything tangible that he has actually done in his constituency which should convince the people to give him another tenure,”Mr Fuseini Adongo stated.
Asked why the people of Zebilla have voted for the incumbent MP for all this while despite failing them, Mr. Fuseini Adongo indicated that the level of poverty in the area is very high such that it becomes easy for him to influence the electorates with gifts and they end up voting for him.
He claimed that Hon. Cletus Avorka sometimes compel the electorates to commit themselves by swearing an oath after offering them the gifts.
Mr. Fuseini Adongo who is a development officer urged the people of Zebilla to reject the incumbent MP during the general elections since he has failed them.
