The policy advisor of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Boakye Agyarko says President John Dramani Mahama is suffering from what he described as mental incompetence.

Agyarko, who was reacting to the decision by President Mahama to restore both teachers and nurses trainees’ allowances, indicated that he was not surprised because President Mahama is confused and therefore cannot take concrete decisions.

“President Mahama has exhibited the kind of mental incompetence that he admitted in his own book,” he stated.

It would be recalled that government scrapped the teachers and nurses trainee allowances in 2014.

This was met with stiff opposition with teachers and nurses trainees across the country threatening to vote against President Mahama in the upcoming general elections.

President Mahama, however, called the bluff of the trainees, stating that he would not restore the allowance, even if it will cost him the elections.

But, surprisingly, President Mahama has made a u-turn over the issue, barely two months to the December 7 polls.

Speaking on Oman Fm’s political analysis programme “Boiling Point” on Tuesday, Mr. Boakye Agyarko chastised President Mahama for making a u-turn.

The former vice president of the Bank of New York, who accused President Mahama of being deceitful, argued that he is being compelled to restore the trainee allowance because defeat is staring him in the face.

“You insisted that you will not restore the allowances. When you went to cape coast you said it repeatedly that you were not going to restore it. So what has changed?” he said.

‘Is it because Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia promised to restore the allowance if NPP is voted into power?” he quizzed.

He advised the trainees not to be overly excited about the restoration of the allowance saying it is one of the political gimmicks employed by President Mahama to win votes.

He warned that the current economic hardships in the country will get worse from January 2017, if President Mahama is retained.

“We made a mistake in 2008 and 2012. We don’t have to repeat the same mistake in 2016, else we are doomed,” he warned.
