Over one hundred Assembly members in the Greater Accra Region have endorsed the presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo.

They explained that their endorsement of Nana Addo was based on the policies and programmes he has promised to implement if elected as President of Ghana.

"We did so because we think his 1-District 1-Factory and 1 million cedis for each constituency is a laudable initiative hence our decision give him our support," they

indicated.

The assembly members announced their decision at a press conference addressed by Hon. Paa Joe, who is the interim secretary in Chorkor, a suburb of Accra on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.

The assembly members were drawn from Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) , Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), Dangbe West and East District Assemblies, all in the Greater Accra region.

Speaking to Oman News after the press conference a deputy coordinator of the assembly members, Hon. Kwesi Poku, who is also the Assembly member for Halcrow Electoral Area in Tema noted that life has become very unbearable for most of them and their electorates due to the poor leadership of President Mahama.

He said the situation is so bad that most parents are traumatised whenever school reopens because they could not pay their children's school fees.

According to him, "There are so much hardship on our people that they come to our homes to demand for money to feed themselves and even pay for their children's school fees."

"We cannot sit on the fence while our people to continue to suffer. We have the opportunity to change this incompetent NDC administration and bring Nana Akufo -Addo led NPP government so that the lives of our people will be improved," he stressed.

Hon. Kwesi Poku accused President Mahama for failing to fulfil his promise of paying assembly members salary during the 2012 electioneering campaign.

Asked why they were supporting Nana Addo when, the district assembly concept clearly states that it is not partisan, Hon. Kwesi Poku defended their decision stressing that the non- partisan nature of the district assembly is only on paper and not practical.

He cited several instances to buttress his point.

He mentioned the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra(AMA) Dr. Alfred Oko, who is contesting Ablekuma South parliamentary seat on the ticket of NDC as a clear example.
