GHS begins nationwide deworming exercise next week

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) will from Monday 26th September, 2016 begin a nationwide deworming exercise for children.
It is expected that over 5 million children will be immunized against worm and bilharzia infections
The exercise forms part of the Ghana Health Service Programme towards the fight against neglected Tropical Diseases in the country.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, Thursday, a Deputy Programme Manager at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Ben Kofi Marfo explained that a team will be deployed to various public and private schools across the country to carry out the exercise.
He added that there would be another team who will also be deployed to go to houses to carry out the exercise.
Dr. Kofi Marfo, who emphasized the importance of the exercise, urged parents to collaborate with the officials of the Ghana Health Service to ensure that their children’s get immunized.
“We are appealing to parents to collaborate with our officials,” he appealed.
He also made an appeal to the media to partner with the Ghana Health Service in order to ensure that the exercise becomes effective by using their various platforms to sensitize parents on the importance of immunization.
A representive from the Ghana Education Service Madam Dorcas Hushie, speaking to Oman News emphasized the importance of the exercise saying it would go a long way to ensure that the children are healthy.
