The Communications Director of Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Mr. Felix Mantey has responded to comments made by Mr. Kofi Adams, National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) suggesting that flagbearer of PPP, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom was not in his right frame of mind when he said NDC jubilated over the death of late President Mills.
Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom during a recent tour of the Central Region accused members of the ruling NDC of rejoicing at the demise of the late President John Mills.
“Mills was our kinsman and he became the president. Some people criticized and attacked him until till he died. And some of the NDC people themselves thanked God that Mills died, is that not strange? And after his death they came back here to tell us to replace him with another person from the Central region. After all that they go about provoking us that if Mills had not died, the NDC wouldn’t be in government today….It appears as though they deliberately pushed him to the seat so they can commit the wrongs behind him,” he said. His comment has not gone down well with members of the NDC including the party’s National Organiser.
Kofi Adams reacting to Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom’s comment indicated that there was something wrong with Dr. Nduom.
“There is something fundamentally and intellectually wrong with Dr. Nduom to go out there and be saying some of these things he is reported to have. How on earth will you be happy over someone’s death”, he quizzed.
However, speaking on Oman FM’s “National Agenda” programme Monday Communications Director of Progressive People’s Party(PPP), Mr. Felix Mantey rejected claims by Mr. Kofi Adams.
“There was nothing wrong with Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom. What pains him is the deliberate attempt by the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama to hide the truth about late President Atta Mills’ death from Ghanaians,” he stated.
Mr. Mantey, who criticized Kofi Adams for his approach to the issue, said he had expected him to be honest by telling Ghanaians what he knows about the demise of late President Mills instead of attacking Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom.
“If you are not happy with the way Dr. Nduom addressed the issue just explain to Ghanaians, but not to attack him,” he stressed.
According to him, Dr. Nduom’s request to government to make available to Ghanaians the autopsy report over the death of President Mills was genuine since a lot of people are still suspicious that he died naturally.
Felix Mantey said it shouldn’t be a problem for the ruling NDC to disclose the cause of death of President Mills if they are not complicit.
“Government should be truthful and transparent because Ghanaians have the right to know what killed their president. When that is done they will be clear in their minds and even applaud you for being transparent,” he stated.
