A pro -opposition group, United for Change (UFC) in abroad have donated assorted items worth thousands of dollars to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for onward distribution to underprivileged persons in the three regions of Ghana.

The items, which include shoes, towels, children's bicycles, T-shirts, trousers and hospital gears, will benefit poor people in the Central, Ashanti, and Brong Ahafo Regions.

The items were donated on behalf of United for Change (UFC) by Mrs. Rebecca Aidoo Asante, who is the National/Abroad Organiser.

United for Change (UFC), which has Mr. Ebenezer Anderson, who is based in Germany as its Chairman, was founded by Mr. Robbie K. Sarkodie Klinsmann (UK) as well as Madam Hagar Yeboah Tremel, Germany with the sole aim of campaigning for the flagbearer of NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be elected as President of Ghana in the upcoming general elections.

Presenting the items, Mrs. Rebecca Aidoo Asante said, the group realized that majority of Ghanaians particularly those in the rural areas were finding life very unbearable due to mismanagement of Ghana’s economy and numerous taxes being introduced by Mahama administration.

She said the group was touched by their plight and therefore decided to mobilize resources and purchased the items to assist them.

"We thought that it will be prudent to offer them help so that they will not be susceptible to vote buying since this is an election year," she stressed.

She was hopeful the items would go a long way to alleviate the plight of the beneficiaries adding that "With these items we are sure that the beneficiaries will be very excited and wouldn't worry anymore about how to get such items."

Mrs. Rebecca Asante used the opportunity to appeal to Ghanaians to vote massively for the NPP since NDC has failed in governing the country well thus resulting to rising levels of poverty and unemployment.

She told Oman News that she is not surprised that Volta Region, which hitherto was a no, go area for the New Patriotic Party has now opened its doors to the party.

"I'm not surprised that the doors of Volta Region have been opened to NPP," she indicated.

According to her, unlike in previous elections where Voltarians campaigned aggressively against NPP, the trend she noted has changed this time around, as they have taken the party's campaign upon themselves and campaigning vigorously against retaining President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.

Mrs. Rebecca Asante asserted that the step being taken by Voltarians is a manifestation of the change in government majority of Ghanaians are yearning for and urged them to put their trust in Nana Akufo-Addo.

"Today, Voltarians are saying that enough is enough after being made "voters region" by NDC for decades. They have come to realize that NDC cannot offer them anything good so they are now campaign for NPP. This is good news for us and Ghana", she stated.

She expressed the group's disappointment in the Mahama administration for its poor handling of the affairs of the country noting that Ghana had retrogressed since the NDC took over the country from NPP administration headed by former President Kufuor.

Mrs. Rebecca Asante charged supporters of the party to work extra hard to enable the party to unseat ruling NDC in the upcoming general elections.

On his part, Dr. Amoako Tuffour, who received the items on behalf of the party commended the United for Change for the gesture and pledged his commitment to ensure that the items are distributed to the right beneficiaries.

The former Director of the School Feeding Programme, who lamented over the poor leadership style of President Mahama, appealed to NPP supporters in the Diaspora to try and return home prior to the general elections in order to vote.
