Spokesperson for the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Adentan Constituency in Greater Accra Region, Mr. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, has charged supporters of the party to avoid complacency and work extra harder to enable the party win this year’s elections and form the next government in 2017.
His call follows recent opinion polls conducted by the Centre for Democratic Development –Ghana and Economic Intelligent Unit (EIU) of UK, as well as Goodman AMC, which suggest that the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is likely to win the upcoming general elections.
The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rubbished the opinion poll and accused the research agencies of manipulating figures to favour the opposition party.
But speaking on Oman FM’s political analysis programme “Boiling Point”, the former Executive Director of the Anti graft body Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) who welcomed the polls, said his party trust such scientific findings because it is based on realities on the ground and not something coming from any soothsayer or a prophet.
According to him, what the party needed to do now is working very hard to win the elections in order to disprove claims by the ruling National Democratic Congress that the findings were massaged to favour NPP.
“If we sit aloof for NDC to rig this year’s elections and win, they will make a lot of noise by saying they are vindicated. So we don’t have to relax at all. We need to work extra hard to win to prove them wrong,” he advised.
Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, who accused NDC of engaging in politics of insult and mud-slinging, warned them to shelve its plans to rig the elections, because his party would use every legitimate means to resist them.
