The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tema Metropolis in the Greater Accra Region says it is targeting at least 80% of the total votes cast in the upcoming general elections in each of the three constituencies in the area, namely Tema Central, West and East.
The opposition NPP which is currently occupying all the three seats in Parliament is hoping to increase the vote’s margin it obtained for both the party’s flagbearer and Parliamentary Candidates during the last elections.

The target, which could be described as too ambitious was revealed by Mr. Kweku Osei Bonus, Chairman of the pro-opposition group Coalition to Elect Nana Addo and Bawumia (CENAB) during a health screening exercise in Tema community 1 site 1 on Sunday, 14th August, 2016.
“We are determined to increase the party’s votes by at least 80% across all the three constituencies. This is the target we have set for ourselves. I recalled that during the last elections our sitting MP for Tema East, Hon. Titus Glover beat the NDC’s candidate with only three votes but we are saying that the figures will change this year. Again, the vote’s margin in Tema Central and Tema West will all be doubled,’’ he stated.

He told Oman News that the group is working very hard on the grounds by embarking on house to house campaign to explain to the electorates why they should vote for NPP.
Mr. Kweku Bonsu added that they have also outlined a number of social programmes including health screening exercises to ensure that target is achieved.
So far, CENAB has organized health screening exercise in Tema Central and Tema East Constituencies with Tema West yet to benefit from the exercise.
Explaining the rationale behind the health screening exercise, Mr. Kweku Bonsu noted that there is no way the party’s quest to obtain 80% of the votes could be achieved if the electorates are not healthy.
He said the group is interested in the health of the electorates and therefore would want to ensure that they stay healthy so that they could go and vote on the day of the elections.
He appealed to the electorates to vote massively for the party’s flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo–Addo to enable the party come to power and restore the country on sound economic footing.
Some of the beneficiaries of the health screening exercise in Tema site 1 who spoke to Oman News described how life now has become difficult under the NDC government led by President.
One woman said life has now become very unbearable under the watch of President John Dramani Mahama.
She lamented that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) which was introduced by then NPP government led by John Agyekum Kufour to take care of the poor and the marginalized in society is not functioning as it used to be.
She said pregnant women who hitherto used NHIS card to access free health care are now made to pay after visiting hospitals for treatment.
The women who commended CENAB for the exercise appealed to Ghanaians to vote NDC out in the upcoming general elections.
