The 2016 Policy Advisor and Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s Energy Committee, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, has assured Ghanaians that NPP government led by Nana Akufo-Addo will reduce the killer electricity tariff slapped on them by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) by making it more affordable to the ordinary people.

According to him, Nana Addo’s administration would ensure that electricity consumers are cushioned since the current electricity tariff had become a burden to the majority of Ghanaians who are already suffering because of poor governance by the NDC.

"Nana Addo will reduce the current electricity tariff and make it more affordable to Ghanaians, if he is voted into power during the upcoming general elections,” he stated.

Boakye Agyarko, who accused Mahama administration for mismanaging the energy sector and plunging the country into darkness, said "we are paying for high electricity tariff because of excessive taxes being introduced by the government on the electricity."

Speaking on Oman FM's political analysis programme "Boiling Point" the former Vice President of the Bank of New York said NPP’s government would remove all the new levies being introduced by Mahama government.

He said one of the things Nana Addo led administration will also do is reviewing all the agreements government has signed with independent power producers to ensure that the country gets value for money.

Boakye Agyarko, who expressed serious concerns about the cost of some of the power plants, argued that there is the need to review all the contracts because the cost involved are unacceptably high.

He accused President Mahama administration of shortchanging the country in the yet to be constructed 400megawatts power plant, which is expected to be executed by the Early Power Limited.

“Look, the new 400 mw power plant which originally cost $636.8 million, has now skyrocketed to $ 935million. If it is not corruption, why should this happen,” he stated.

Boakye Agyarko, who bemoaned the level of corruption, in the energy sector stressed that it was about time government stop shortchanging the country.
