A former District Chief Executive for Garu-Tempani in the Upper East Region, Emmanuel Asigri has revealed that President Mahama's son was the one who was using the controversial Ford Expedition gift until the news broke.

"I can state on authority that President Mahama's son was using the controversial Ford Expedition until Manasseh broke the news about the car and then it was taken from him. I have been around and I saw him driving the car, “he alleged.

President Mahama has been accused by anti corruption groups and many Ghanaians for an act which constitutes conflict of interest, after it emerged that he had accepted a "Ford Expedition" from Mr. Djibril Kanazoe, a Burkinabe road contractor as a gift.

The Communications Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah in a statement written to respond to the controversial Ford Expedition Gift saga stated that said vehicle was put in the presidential vehicle pool because it was donated to the state contrary to claims that it was for President Mahama's personal use.

Angered by the action of the President, the Youth League of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the issue and if possible impeach the President.

But in an interesting twist, Tony Lithur, lawyer for President Mahama in a letter responding to the petition urged the commission to dismiss the case on the grounds that it lacked merit.

However, speaking to the issue on Oman FM, the former DCE, who was also a presidential staffer under Kufuor administration challenged government claim that the car was put in the presidential vehicle pool.

He argued that it was not true that the vehicle was put in the presidential vehicle pool saying "I have worked in the presidency and I know that duty is not paid on state vehicles so the argument that duty was paid is defeated."

"The argument that duty was paid is flimsy because state vehicles doesn't go through that process. Duties are not paid on what belonged to the state,” he said

He was flabbergasted about the argument by government functionaries that President Mahama doesn't award contract
