Spokesperson for the 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Adenta Constituency in Greater Accra Region, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, says President John Dramani Mahama must be blamed for the irresponsible behaviour of the incarcerated presenter of Montie FM, Salifu Maase, popularly known as “Mugabe.”
According to him, he is not surprised about the deafening silence of President Mahama on the incarceration of Mugabe and two panelists by the Supreme Court for scandalizing the court, because they were doing his bidding.
“I’m not surprised that our president has kept mute over this controversial issue because they were doing his bidding,” Yaw Buabeng Asamoah said.
Godwin Ako Gunn and Alistair Tairo Nelson, both members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Salifu Maase were jailed by the Supreme Court for scandalizing and lowering the authority of the court on Wednesday, 27 June, 2016.
This was after, they were found guilty for threatening to kill the judges, who were sitting on the case involving the former National Youth Organizer of PNC, Abu Ramadan versus the Electoral Commission (EC).
It would a week tomorrow when the Supreme Court handed four months jail term to what has become popularly known as “Montie trio”, but President Mahama is yet speak on the matter.
Speaking to the issue on Oman FM, the former Executive Director of the Anti graft body Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) noted that Salifu Maase, who was residing in UK until he returned to Ghana last year had said on countless occasions on radio that he returned to Ghana purposely to campaign for President Mahama.
He argued that if President Mahama was not in support of the kind of vituperations and personality attacks Mugabe used Montie FM to unleash on eminent Ghanaians including opposition party leaders, he (President) would have even called him to order before his unfortunate incarceration.
“It President Mahama was not in support of the vituperations and insults Mugabe visited on eminent Ghanaians including flagbearer of NPP, he should have commended the Supreme Court for sanitizing for the airwaves,” he suggested.
Yaw Buabeng Asamoah stated that President Mahama’s silence on the matter has painted a clear picture in the minds of well meaning Ghanaians that he was backing Mugabe’s unethical conduct.
Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, who chastised prominent NDC members including Ministers for signing a petition book asking President Mahama to exercise his prerogative of mercy to free the Montie trio, challenged President Mahama to speak on the matter to prove to Ghanaians that he abhors the actions of the jailed NDC supporters.
